Hon. Amanda Chua is a commissioner for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona.
During her tenure as commissioner, Chua has held an assignment in the Juvenile Court.
Prior to joining the bench, she was an associate at Gillespie, Shields, Goldfarb & Taylor (2017 to 2021). Her tenure in private practice also included working as a sole practitioner in her own private practice (2014 to 2017); an associate at Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer (2015 to 2016); a senior associate at Swenson, Storer, Andrews & Frazelle (2008 to 2014); and an attorney at Ryley, Carlock & Applewhite (2006 to 2008).
Her areas of practice included personal injury, business disputes, professional liability defense, animal law matters, premise liability, bad faith defense, wrongful death liability, medical malpractice, real estate foreclosures, workers’ compensation defense, motor vehicle accidents, general tort liability, and insurance defense.
Chua also spent time as a deputy public defender for the City of Tucson’s Office of the Public Defender (2004 to 2006).
She received a B.A. in political science and government from Johns Hopkins University in 1997. Chua went on to complete a J.D. at Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2001.
She has sat on the Maricopa County Bar Association Diversity & Inclusion Committee (chair) and the Arizona Women Lawyers Association Steering Committee. Chua also served as a member of the Arizona Asian American Bar Association Board of Directors (Liaison for Arizona Collaborative Bar and past president), the Thurgood Marshall American Inns of Court, and the State Bar of Arizona Animal Law Section (chair).
Her civic involvement has included the Lost Our Homes Pet Rescue (volunteer) and the Phoenix Chamber Music Society Board of Directors.
Chua has also been a violinist with the Tempe Symphony Orchestra since 2007.
