The Hon. Arthur E. Grim (Ret.) is a senior judge for the Berks County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. Grim was initially elected to the bench on November 3, 1987. He retired on December 31, 2007.
Over the course of his judicial career, Grim held assignments as the administrative head of the Juvenile Court (1987 to 2007). He was also President Judge of the 23rd Judicial District of the Court of Common Pleas (2004 to 2008). Grim also sat as Special Master for the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to review all juvenile cases presided over by Luzerne County Judge Mark A. Ciavarella, Jr. (2009 to 2012).
Grim earned a bachelor’s degree from Moravian College & Theological Seminary in 1964. He then completed a J.D. at Duquesne University School of Law in 1972.
After graduating from law school, Grim entered into private practice. He worked in that capacity until his election to the bench.
His memberships included the Pennsylvania Juvenile Court Judges Commission (chairman), the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Committee of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Governor’s Cabinet on Children and Families, and the Pennsylvania State Trial Judges Commission (president). He also sat on the Board of Trustees of the Wyomissing Foundation.
He is a recipient of the Thun Award from the Berks County Community Foundation (2015).
Grim was born in Reading, Pennsylvania.
