The Hon. Brandon T. Birmingham is a judge for the 292nd District Court in Dallas County, Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022.
Over the course of his judicial career, Birmingham has held assignments as the Presiding Judge of the Criminal District Courts in Dallas County. He has presided over the Family Domestic Violence Court, and he helped establish the AIM Court, a youthful offenders program designed to end mass incarceration.
Birmingham earned a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University. He then completed a J.D. at South Texas College of Law. As a law student, he interned for the Hon. Michael Schneider at the Texas 1st District Court of Appeals.
After graduating from law school, Birmingham served as an assistant district attorney with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he was named Chief of the Cold Case Unit. He also served as chief felony prosecutor for the Trial Division, and he tried two cases with the Conviction Integrity Division.
His memberships have included the College of the State Bar of Texas.
Raised in Carrollton, Texas, Birmingham attended R. L. Turner High School. He and his wife, Carrie, have two children. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoys playing tennis, basketball, guitar, and drums. He also created “A Murderous Design,” a documentary podcast that studies old trials with North Texas ties, interviewing the individuals directly involved with the trials.
He is registered as a Democrat.
