The Hon. Christopher J. Lehmann is a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of Minnesota. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Dayton on October 10, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Richard G. Spicer.
The First Judicial District includes Carver County, Dakota County, Goodhue County, Le Sueur County, Scott County, and Sibley County.
Prior to his appointment, Lehmann worked at Grannis & Lehmann, a law firm he joined in 1999. During his tenure there, he supplemented his practice with service as an assistant public defender for the First Judicial District Public Defender’s Office (1999 to 2014).
Lehmann earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and business administration from Concordia College in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law in 1994.
After graduating from law school, Lehmann entered into private practice, working as an associate at Grannis & Grannis in South St. Paul. He stayed with the firm until 1997, at which time he became an assistant city attorney for the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the American Bar Association and the Dakota County Bar Association (president). He has also been involved with the South St. Paul City Council, and he has served on the Joint Powers Board of the South Metro Fire Department and the Board of Directors of South St. Paul Future and the River-Heights Chamber of Commerce.
