The Hon. Jacquelyn A. McClinton is a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gretchen Whitmer on December 17, 2019, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Cylenthia LaToye Miller to the 3rd Circuit Court.
Prior to her appointment, McClinton was an administrative law judge with the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules. In that capacity, she presided over administrative hearings relating to benefits services, licensing, disability, and expunction matters.
McClinton earned a master’s degree in dispute resolution from Wayne State University. She also completed a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School.
After graduating from law school, McClinton joined the Michigan Department of Attorney General. She spent the next several years as an assistant attorney general, holding assignments in the Criminal Division, the Unemployment Division, and the Child and Youth Services Division.
Her memberships have included the Black Women Lawyers Association, the Wolverine Bar Association, the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, and the Association of Black Judges of Michigan. She has also been involved with the NAACP and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
A resident of Detroit, Michigan, at the time of her appointment, McClinton is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
