Hon. James B. Brady is a judge for the Forty-Seventh District Court of Michigan in Oakland County. He was elected to the bench in November 2002.
During his judicial tenure, Brady served as Chief Judge of the Forty-Seventh District Court (2004 to 2005). Prior to his election, he spent seventeen years as a magistrate of the court (1985 to 2002).
Brady also worked as a private practice attorney (1984 to 2002) and was a former assistant prosecutor with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Oakland County (1980 to 1984).
He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1975. Brady went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 1979.
He was admitted to practice in Michigan (1979), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan (1979), the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York (1991), the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona (1992), the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan (1996), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (1999).
His memberships have included the Michigan Judges Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Oakland County District Judges Association.
He has been involved with the Exchange Club, the Optimist Club, and Farmington Families in Action (treasurer). Brady has also served as a coach for youth hockey and baseball.
He received the Distinguished Public Servant Award from the Oakland County Bar Association in 2016.
He and his wife, Diane, reside in Farmington Hills and have three children.
