The Hon. James L. Sherbin (Ret.) served as the county administrative judge for the Garrett County Circuit Court in Maryland. Sherbin was appointed to the bench by former Governor Parris Glendening on July 5, 1996. He retired on February 21, 2014.
Sherbin was the designated judge for the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource Center Program. He also sat on the Executive Committee, the Juvenile Law Committee, the Family Law Committee, and the Civil Law & Procedure Committee of the Maryland Judicial Conference.
Prior to his appointment, Sherbin was the State’s Attorney for Garrett County, a position to which he was named in 1979. Before that, he spent time as a deputy state’s attorney for the Garrett County State’s Attorney’s Office (1975 to 1979) and an assistant state’s attorney for the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office (1971 to 1974).
Sherbin earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in 1967. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1970.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association and the Garrett County Bar Association.
He was born in Newton, New Jersey.
