Hon. Jill L. Prohofsky is a chief child support magistrate for the State of Minnesota. As such, she is appointed to hear cases in all ten judicial districts across the state. Prohofsky has served in the position since 2021.
She also served as the Deputy Manager of the Child Support Magistrate, where she was tasked with overseeing the magistrates in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Judicial Districts, while also continuing to hear cases (2019 to 2021). She became a child support magistrate in 2002, presiding in the 4th and 10th Judicial Districts.
Before that, Prohofsky was the Director and managing attorney for the Catholic Charities Law Center (2001 to 2002); a sole practitioner (2000); a partner at Doroshow & LeBow, PLLP (1996 to 2000); and an associate at Resnick, Bass & Carlson, PLLP (1993 to 1995).
She has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School and William Mitchell College of Law.
Prohofsky received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan in 1990. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1993.
Her memberships have included the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Foundation (past president), the Hennepin County Bar Association, and the Minnesota Women Lawyers. Prohofsky sat on the Supreme Court Gender Fairness Implementation Committee and the statewide Committee for Equality and Justice.
From a civic standpoint, she has been involved with the Hopkins Youth Hockey Association (vice president of special projects and team manager), Hopkins Ultimate Recreation Team (webmaster and team parent), and the International Spanish Language Academy (volunteer).
In addition, Prohofsky served as a committee member at Adath Jeshurun Synagogue and as treasurer of the Preschool Parents Group at B’nai Emet Synagogue. She was also a member of the Golden Valley Human Rights Commission and past secretary of HOPE Adoption & Family Services International, Inc.
