The Hon. John A. Longoria (Ret.) served as a judge for the Bexar County Court at Law No. 5 in Texas. Longoria joined the bench in 2015. He resigned at the conclusion of his term on December 31, 2022.
Longoria earned a B.A. in biology from St. Mary's University in 1967. Then, in 1973, he completed a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Longoria entered into private practice. Thirteen years later, he became a named partner at Mendelsohn, Heidelberg, Longoria & Bear. He worked in that capacity briefly, opening his own private practice as a sole practitioner the following year.
His memberships have included the San Antonio Bar Association, the Mexican American Bar Association of San Antonio, the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Family Law Section of the San Antonio Bar Association. He has also served as a board member for the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the San Antonio Children's Shelter, and he has been actively involved with the San Antonio Task Force on Energy and the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
Born in Elmendorf, Texas, Longoria attended Central Catholic High School and served in the United States Army Reserve. He represented District 117 as a Texas State Representative (1993 to 2003), holding assignments on the Committee on State Affairs, the Committee on Public Health, the Committee on Corrections, and the Committee on County Affairs.
He is registered as a Democrat.
