The Hon. Kahlilia Yvette Davis is a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan. She was elected to the bench on November 8, 2016.
Prior to her election, Davis spent time as a criminal defense attorney, specializing in felony, traffic, and misdemeanor matters.
Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She then completed a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School in 2006.
Her memberships have included the Macomb County Bar Association, the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar Association, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
In 2020, the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission filed a complaint against Davis. The document, which was later amended in 2022, accused her of abusing her contempt of court powers, not properly recording court hearings, improperly recording others, and interfering with the livelihood of a process server for the court. In response, the Michigan Supreme Court suspended Davis in June 2020.
Raised in Detroit, Davis attended Lewis Cass Technical High School.
