The Hon. Kelly C. Cherry is a judge for the Denver County Court in Colorado. She was appointed to the bench by Mayor Michael Hancock on August 27, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Adam Espinosa.
Prior to her appointment, Cherry was a magistrate for the Denver County Court, a position to which she was named in 2019. In that capacity, she presided over misdemeanor, municipal, and juvenile cases. She also handled trials in the Denver Juvenile Court.
Cherry earned a bachelor’s degree from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. She spent the next several years as a paralegal for a criminal defense firm before completing a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2008.
After graduating from law school, Cherry entered into private practice as a sole practitioner. She specialized in criminal defense matters, supplementing her practice with service as a member of Alternate Defense Counsel.
Her memberships have included the Robert C. Rhone-Ava M. Brackett American Inn of Court.
