The Hon. L. Dee Shipman (Ret.) served as a judge for the 211th District Court in Denton County, Texas. Shipman joined the bench in 1995. He retired in 2014.
Over the course of his judicial career, Shipman presided over family law matters, criminal cases, and complex civil cases.
Shipman earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. He began working as a C.P.A. at Ernest & Ernst (now Ernst & Young). Then, in 1983, he completed a J.D. at Texas Tech University School of Law.
He is Board Certified in Family Law and Criminal Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He was also trained as a mediator at the Harvard Law School Negotiation Institute.
After graduating from law school, Shipman worked as an assistant district attorney as well as an attorney in private practice.
Shipman was raised on a dairy farm in Johnson County, Texas.
