The Hon. Louis Allen Sherman (Ret.) served as a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia. Sherman was elected to the bench by the Virginia General Assembly in 2009. He retired on December 31, 2012.
The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses the City of Norfolk.
Prior to his election, Sherman was a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court, a position to which he was named in 1995. Before that, he spent time as an attorney in private practice as well as the director for the Tidewater Legal Aid Society.
Sherman earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Sherman began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for a federal judge in Baltimore, Maryland.
Sherman was born in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia.
