The Hon. Mark A. McConnell is a judge for the 18th District Court of Michigan. He was elected to the bench in 2008 and re-elected in 2014 and 2020.
McConnell earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and government from Bowling Green State University in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1993. As a law student, McConnell was the Articles Editor for the Michigan Business Law Journal.
He is admitted to practice in Michigan (1993), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
After graduating from law school, McConnell began his legal career as a research attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals. He served in that capacity until 1995, at which time he entered into private practice as Angelo A. Plakas & Associates. He supplemented his practice with service as an assistant city attorney for the City of Westland.
His memberships have included the Michigan District Judges Association, the Westland Rotary Club (president), and S.P.A.R.K. (president). He has also been involved with the Board of Directors for the Westland Chamber of Commerce, the Local Block Grant Advisory Board for the Westland Police Department, the Advisory Board for Westland Youth Assistance, and the Advisory Board for Western Wayne County Families Against Narcotics.
