Hon. Matthew C. Melton is a commissioner for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court (Division 25A) of Missouri. He was appointed to the bench by the judges of the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court on April 16, 2015, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. James Sullivan to circuit judge.
The 22nd Judicial Circuit includes the City of St. Louis.
Melton is a Treatment Court commissioner and presides over adult treatment court cases, the Family Drug Court, and Veterans Treatment Court programs.
Prior to his appointment, he had worked since 2006 as an assistant public defender with the Missouri State Public Defender System, having held an assignment in the St. Louis City trial office. During that time, he handled felony cases and served as defense counsel for indigent clients in Treatment Court.
Melton received a B.A. from Truman State University in 2003. He went on to complete a J.D. at Saint Louis University School of Law in 2006.
Melton, who was born in Florissant, Missouri, attended Saint Louis University High School. He and his wife, Amanda, have three children. The family resides in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.
