Hon. Phillip Jackson is an associate judge for the Fulton County Juvenile Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench on June 12, 2009.
While on the bench, Jackson has presided over adjudicate deprivation and delinquency cases.
Prior to his appointment, he handled criminal, juvenile, probate, and traffic matters as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, the Law Office of Phillip Jackson (2004 to 2009).
Before that, Jackson spent four years as an administrative law judge for the Office of State Administrative Hearings, presiding over appeals of adverse decisions rendered by state agencies (2000 to 2004).
He received a B.B.A. in business systems from the University of Georgia (1975) and an M.B.A. in management from Georgia State University (1977). Jackson then spent the next several years working as a financial analyst and management associate at C&S National Bank (1977 to 1980) and a staff supervisor, regional group representative, and computer programmer at AT&T (1980 to 1990). He went on to complete a J.D. at Georgia State University College of Law in 1988. While a law student, Jackson received the American Jurisprudence Award in Bankruptcy.
He was admitted to practice in Georgia (1989) and the District of Columbia (1990).
Jackson began his legal career as an assistant solicitor with the Atlanta City Solicitor’s Office in 1990 and spent the next three years prosecuting probable cause and first appearance hearings. Then, in 1993, Jackson became an assistant solicitor-general with the Fulton County Solicitor-General’s Office, where he spent seven years prosecuting misdemeanors.
He has held memberships with the Georgia Association of Counsel for Children (trustee), the Atlanta Bar Association, the Gate City Bar Association (chairperson, Judicial Section), the DeKalb Lawyers Association (past president), the Cobb County Bar Association (trustee), the Georgia Alliance of African American Attorneys (secretary), the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Georgia Association of Administrative Law Judges & Hearing Officers (past president), the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Jackson also sat as a member of the Parents Attorney Advisory Committee (past president), the State Bar of Georgia B.A.S.I.C.S. Committee (chairperson), the Committee on Professionalism, the Investigative Panel, and the Chief Justice’s Committee on Professionalism.
