The Hon. Robert K. Taylor, Jr. is an associate judge for the Baltimore City Circuit Court in Maryland. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Larry Hogan on July 3, 2018.
Prior to his appointment, Taylor was an assistant attorney general for the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, a position to which he was named in 2005. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming senior counsel for forensic litigation.
Taylor earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Towson University in 1988. He spent the next few years working as a writer for Signet Bank (1987 to 1989) and a marketing specialist for the Provident Bank of Maryland (1990 to 1994) before completing a J.D. at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law in 1994.
He is admitted to practice in Maryland (1994), the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (1996), the United States Supreme Court (2010), and the District of Columbia (2011).
After graduating from law school, Taylor entered into private practice. He started as an associate at Ingerman & Horwitz, where he handled criminal defense, torts, and administrative law matters. Then, in 2000, he moved to Hoffman & Hoffman, specializing in criminal defense, workers’ compensation, and general litigation.
His memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Baltimore City Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the American Constitution Society. He also sat on the Board of Directors of Project PLASE and the Mays Chapel Townhouse Association.
Taylor was born in Baltimore, Maryland.
