The Hon. Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez is a judge for the Bexar County Court at Law No. 13 in Texas. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018, and re-elected in 2022. At the time of her election, she became the first openly gay judge to be elected in Bexar County.
Gonzalez earned a bachelor's degree in political science and government from St. Mary's University in 1987. She spent the next several years working as a child abuse investigator, a gang counselor, and a juvenile probation officer. Then, in 2001, she completed a J.D. at St. Mary's University School of Law. She was certified as a Child Welfare Specialist by the National Association of Counsel for Children.
After graduating from law school, Gonzalez entered into private practice, where she represented children in foster care or the Child Protective Services system.
She has served on the Bexar County Small, Minority and Women Business Enterprise Advisory Committee. During her tenure there, she helped ensure that LGBT firms would be included in the county's contracting policies and procedures.
Gonzalez was born in Brownsville, Texas, and resides in San Antonio. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
She is registered as a Democrat.
