Scott T. Jordan (Ret.) was a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. He was elected to the bench in 1992 and was retained in subsequent elections. He retired from the bench in 2004, after which he held senior judge status.
Jordan received a B.A. in economics and mathematics from Pomona College in 1971. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1975.
After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a staff attorney with Washoe Legal Services. Two years later, Jordan entered into private practice in Downieville, California.
He later served as Executive Director of the Law Center for the Disabled and was a deputy public defender in Washoe County.
Then, in 1985, Jordan was appointed to serve as a court master for the Second Judicial District Court. During his tenure in that position, he presided over juvenile, domestic violence, child support enforcement, and domestic relations cases. He is also credited with implementing the Washoe County Domestic Violence Protection Order Program in 1988. He remained in this capacity until his election to the bench.
He holds the distinction of being the first Family Court judge in Washoe County. Jordan served as presiding judge of the Family Division until 2003.
He was an adjunct faculty member of the University of Nevada, Reno, and served as faculty for the National Judicial College, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence. In addition, Jordan taught high school in the Philippines, was a participant in the Juvenile Justice Exchange Program in Guatemala and served as a volunteer at orphanages in both Kenya and Mexico.
Jordan also served as a consultant for the Office of Violence Against Women at the U.S. Justice Department.
