The Hon. Thomas A. Holloway is a magistrate for the Beaufort County Summary Court in South Carolina.
The summary court presides over landlord/tenant hearings, summons and complaint cases (to claim disputed funds), claim and delivery cases (to reclaim property), and public sales of abandoned vehicles. Its magistrates also hear criminal and traffic cases, issue warrants and set bonds, and hold preliminary hearings and transfer cases for the county.
In addition to his judicial service, Holloway has worked as a member of Harvey & Battey, a law firm based in Beaufort County. In that capacity, he handles complex civil matters, including eminent domain, automobile accidents, personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability, commercial, and real estate matters.
Holloway earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law, in 1989. He is licensed to practice in New Jersey (1989), Pennsylvania (1989), South Carolina (1997), the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina.
His memberships have included the South Carolina Bar Association, the Beaufort County Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association. He has also been involved with the Friends of Nemours Wildlife Foundation as well as the Board of Directors of the Beaufort County Open Land Trust, the Campaign Committee for the United Way of Beaufort, and the Advisory Board for the SCDNR Heritage Trust.
He and his wife, Betsy, have three adult children.
