The Hon. Gregory J. Amoroso is a judge for the Rome City Court in the Fifth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to a full-time position on the Rome City Court in a special election in 2015. He was originally appointed to a part-time position on the Rome City Court by former Rome City Mayor Joseph R. Fusco, Jr. in 2014 to replace the Hon. John C. Gannon. During his tenure on the City Court, Judge Amoroso has also served as an acting judge for the Oneida County Court beginning in 2016.
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Amoroso graduated with his B.S. in public relations and journalism from the Utica College of Syracuse University in 1989. He went on to earn his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1993.
Amoroso began his legal career as an assistant corporation counsel with the City of Rome Corporation Counsel’s Office in 1994. During his tenure there, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming first assistant in 1995, and then corporation counsel in 1996. Amoroso remained in that position until 2002.
It was at that time that he entered into private practice, joining the Utica law firm of Saunders Kahler as an associate. Two years later, Amoroso would be named a partner at the firm and would hold that position until 2011. He also served as counsel for New York State Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-Rome) from 2007 to 2008.
Then, in 2012, Amoroso served for one year as the County Attorney for Oneida County.
He has also taught criminal law as an adjunct professor at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Judge Amoroso is a native of Rome, New York.
