The Hon. Albert D. Kirby (Ret.) served as a judge for the Onslow County Superior Court in the 4th Judicial District of the 2nd Division in North Carolina. Kirby was appointed to the bench by Governor Roy Cooper in 2017, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Doug Parsons. He resigned at the conclusion of his term in 2018.
Prior to his appointment, Kirby operated his own private practice in downtown Clinton. He represented clients in personal injury, workers' compensation, and medical malpractice cases, supplementing his practice with service as a board attorney for Clinton City Schools.
Kirby earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University in 1980. He then completed a J.D. at Campbell University, Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, in 1986. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina (1987) and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina (1987).
After graduating from law school, Kirby began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office. He later transferred to the Pitt County District Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the Sampson County Bar Association. He has also represented District 5 on the Sampson County Board of Commissioners.
Raised in Clinton, North Carolina, Kirby spent his childhood on a tobacco farm. He attended Clinton High School.
He is registered as a Democrat.
