The Hon. Amanda M. Leviner is a magistrate for the Dorchester County Magistrate Court in South Carolina. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Sanford in 2009.
The magistrate court presides over landlord/tenant hearings, summons and complaint cases (to claim disputed funds), claim and delivery cases (to reclaim property), and public sales of abandoned vehicles. Its magistrates also hear criminal and traffic cases, issue warrants and set bonds, and hold preliminary hearings and transfer cases for the county.
Leviner earned a bachelor’s degree in religion, youth ministry, and music from Charleston Southern University in 2001. She later opened the Manna House Christian Bookstore before completing a J.D. at the Charleston School of Law in 2014. As a law student, she externed with the Hon. Richard M. Gergel of the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina (2013).
After graduating from law school, Leviner began her legal career as an associate at the Maes Law Firm. She worked in that capacity until 2017, at which time she purchased the practice and renamed it the Leviner Law Firm. Leviner has specialized in domestic litigation, supplementing her practice with service as a guardian ad litem for private domestic and probate matters.
Her memberships have included the Charleston Chapter of Street Law. She has also been involved with the Dorchester County Bar Association, the Greater Summerville Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, and the South Carolina School Improvement Council, and she has served on the Board of Directors of Summerville Downtown Restoration Enhancement and Management, the Public Works Art Center, and ARK Alzheimer’s Family Support Services.
Born and raised in Summerville, South Carolina, Leviner attended Summerville High School. She and her husband have two golden retrievers. When not presiding over legal proceedings, she enjoys paddle boarding the Ashley River and leading a discipleship Bible study.
