The Hon. Amy Maher is a circuit judge for the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. She was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020.
The 3rd Judicial Circuit includes Madison County and Bond County.
Prior to her election, Maher was the Director of Operations for the Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Springfield, a position to which she was named in 2016. Before that, she spent time as a Program Director for Catholic Charities Legal Services (2013 to 2015).
Maher earned a bachelor’s degree in politics and international relations from Cornell College in 1985. She then completed a J.D. at Notre Dame Law School in 1988.
After graduating from law school, Maher began her legal career as an assistant state’s attorney for the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. She served in that capacity until 2013, at which time she entered into private practice as a sole practitioner.
Born and raised in Alton, Illinois, Maher attended St. Mary’s High School and Marquette High School. She and her husband, Roger, reside in Madison County. Roger is the Chief Deputy Coroner for Madison County.
She is registered as a Republican.
