The Hon. Ana L. Escobar is a judge for Division III of the Davidson County General Sessions Court in Tennessee. She was elected to the bench in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
Prior to her election, Escobar was an assistant district attorney for the 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, a position to which she was named in 2015. Before that, she spent time as the deputy director for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts (2013 to 2015) as well as a sole practitioner in her own private practice (2001 to 2011).
Escobar earned a bachelor’s degree in English, political science, and art history from Vanderbilt University in 1992. She then completed a J.D. at The George Washington University Law School in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Escobar began her legal career as an assistant public defender. She worked in that capacity until 1998, at which time she entered into private practice at Funk & Kay. However, her time there was brief. Later that year, she was hired as an assistant district attorney.
Her memberships have included the Nashville Hispanic Bar Association. She has also been involved with the Wings Foundation, and she has served on the Davidson County Election Commission, the Board of Equalization, and the Tennessee Judicial Nominating Commission.
She is a recipient of the Academy for Women of Achievement Award from YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee (2019) and the Outstanding Local Official Award from the Nashville Coalition Against Domestic Violence (2016).
Born in Colombia, South America, Escobar relocated with her family to Nashville, Tennessee, in the 1970s.
