Hon. Andrea R. S. Watkins is an associate judge for the Charles County District Court (District 4) in Maryland. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Martin O’Malley in 2014.
Prior to her appointment, Watkins presided as a domestic relations master of the Charles County Circuit Court for seven years (2007 to 2014). She also spent time as a trust clerk with the court from 1993 to 1996.
In addition, her legal career included stints in both the public and private sectors. Watkins joined the Office of the County Attorney as an assistant county attorney in 1996 after spending eight years in private practice.
During that time, she worked as an associate at John D. Hungerford, P.A. (1991 to 1996); Chapman & Bowling (1990 to 1991); and Reichelt, Nussbaum, Brown, Dukes & La Placa (1988 to 1990).
Watkins received an A.A. from Charles County Community College (1981) and a B.A. from Mount St. Mary’s College (1983). She went on complete a J.D. at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law in 1986.
After graduating from law school, Watkins began her legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. George W. Bowling with the Charles County Circuit Court (1986 to 1988).
Her memberships have included the Maryland State Bar Association and the Charles County Bar Association. Watkins was a former member of the Charles County Land Trust Steering Committee.
Her civic involvement included the Hospice of Charles County, Inc. (Board of Directors), the Port Tobacco Players, and the Civista Medical Center.
Watkins received a Certificate of Appreciation from Mount St. Mary’s College and Hospice of Charles County, Inc.
She attended Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland.
