The Hon. Andrew Ellis is a magistrate for the 4th Judicial District Magistrate Division of Idaho. He was appointed to the bench by the District Magistrate Commission of the 4th Judicial District on October 1, 2013.
The 4th Judicial District includes Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties. Ellis has held an assignment in Ada County.
Prior to his appointment, he spent twelve years as a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office (2002 to 2014). Ellis began his legal career as a clerk for the Idaho Court of Appeals.
He also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law.
Ellis received a B.A. in English, theater, art, and secondary education from the College of Idaho in 1994. He then spent three years as a teacher and head of the Theatre Department at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, before completing a J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Law in 2001.
Ellis was born in San Jose, California, and attended Cambridge High School. His father served as a municipal court judge in Groveland, California. A filmmaker buff, Ellis is a founder and managing director of the Idaho Forty-Eight Hour Film Competition and Fest and a board member of the True West Cinema Festival and the Idaho Film Foundation.
