The Hon. Anthony F. Marano (Ret.) was the presiding justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Term, Second Judicial Department for the Ninth and Tenth Judicial Districts. Marano was first appointed to serve as an associate justice of the Appellate Term by former Chief Administrative Judge A. Gail Prudenti in 2013. He retired in 2018.
Marano also served as a justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court after receiving an appointment to the seat by former Governor George Pataki in 1999. He was elected to the position the following year. While on the Supreme Court bench, Marano served as supervising judge of the Matrimonial Parts in Nassau County (2000 to 2003) and as administrative judge of the Tenth Judicial District (2004 to 2013). He served as a certificated justice of the Supreme Court from 2013 to 2018. Marano began his judicial career as a judge for the Nassau County District Court after being elected in 1992.
He received a B.A. from St. John’s University in 1966. Marano went on to earn a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1969.
Prior to joining the bench, he had served in private practice since 1970.
In 2010, Marano received the Norman F. Lent Memorial Award from the Criminal Courts Bar Association of Nassau County and the Distinguished Service Medallion from the Nassau County Bar Association in 2009.
