The Hon. Barry W. Bennett (Ret.) served as a judge for the Polk County Court in the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist in 2010.
Prior to his appointment, Bennett was in private practice at Stanley, Wines, Bennett, Murphy & Helms in Winter Haven. His areas of practice included transactional work, estate planning, and general civil litigation matters.
He received a B.A. from Florida State University in 1970. Bennett went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1974.
He was admitted to practice in Florida (1975), the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida (1979), the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit (1980), and the United States Supreme Court (1982).
Bennett has held a membership with the Lakeland Bar Association. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the American Heart Association (Florida/Rico Affiliate).
He was born in Winter Haven, Florida.
