Hon. Benjamin F. Lewis is a circuit judge for the 32nd Judicial Circuit Court (Division II) of Missouri. He was elected to the position in 2004.
The 32nd Judicial Circuit includes Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, and Perry Counties.
Lewis began his judicial career as an associate circuit judge for the 32nd Judicial Circuit Court in 1991. He then practiced as a member of Layton & Lewis, LLC for nine years before returning to the bench (1995 to 2004). Lewis was also in private practice before joining the bench (1981 to 1990).
He received a B.A. from Southeast Missouri State University in 1977. Lewis went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1980.
He was admitted to practice in Missouri (1980), the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri (1980), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri (1982), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (1985).
After graduating from law school, Lewis began his legal career as a law clerk with the 16th Judicial Circuit (1980 to 1981).
He is a past president of the 32nd Judicial Circuit Bar Association, Hanover Lutheran Church, and the Cape Girardeau Lions Club. Lewis is also a past chairman of the Boy Scouts of America, Shawnee District, and served on the Southeast Missouri Hospital Board of Trustees.
He was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Lewis is registered as a Republican.
