The Hon. Bobby G. Peters is a judge for the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia.
Prior to his appointment, Peters was a detective with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office. He also taught law at Southern Union State College, and he served as the Director of the Regional Police Academy.
Peters earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice (1974) and a master’s degree in education (1976) from Columbus College. He then completed a J.D. at Woodrow Wilson College of Law in 1979.
His memberships have included the Columbus City Council. He also served as Mayor for the City of Columbus, a position to which he was elected in 1994. During this time, he was also the Public Safety Director, tasked with leading the city’s police department, fire department, EMS, E-911, and prison.
Peters was the first American citizen to be named Ambassador of Goodwill for the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, which was formerly known as the School of Americas. He was also presented the Order of Saint Maurice by General Paul Eaton, Commander of Fort Benning in 2002.
A resident of Columbus, Georgia, Peters attended Hardaway High School. He is a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Columbus. He has two daughters and three grandchildren.
