The Hon. Brenda Cameron is a judge for the 10th Judicial District Court of Kansas in Johnson County. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Graves in 2002.
Prior to her appointment, she was in private practice at Cornwell, Cameron, Erickson & Travis in Olathe since 2001. Before that, Cameron worked for the Travis County District Attorney’s Office in Austin, Texas (1995 to 1996), and the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office in Kansas (1992 to 1995; 1997 to 2001). She began her legal career as a public defender in Salina (1990 to 1992).
She received a B.S. in journalism from the University of Kansas in 1987. Cameron then completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 1990.
Her memberships include the Kansas Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Foundation (Silver Fellow and Board of Directors), the Kansas District Judges Association (president), the Earl E. O'Connor Inn of Court, the American Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the American Judges Association, and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Cameron also served on the Kansas Commission on Judicial Conduct; the Kansas District Court Judges Annual Conference (chair); the Juvenile Corrections Advisory Committee; the Juvenile Bench Bar Committee; the American Judges Association Advisory Committee; and the Kansas Supreme Court's Rules Committee, Education Committee, and Specialty Courts Commission.
She was born in Russell, Kansas.
