Hon. Brendan A. Maher is a circuit judge for the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois in Winnebago County. He was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2010.
The 17th Judicial Circuit includes Boone and Winnebago Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Maher was an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, having served in that capacity since 2009. Before that, he was a partner at WilliamsMcCarthy, LLP, where he had practiced since 1997.
Maher received a B.A. in psychology and secondary education from Augustana College in 1992. He went on to complete a J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law in 1997. While a law student, Maher was a summer associate at Baker & McKenzie.
He was admitted to practice in Illinois (1997) and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (1997).
Maher attended Boylan Central Catholic High School.
