Judge Brittany C. Grayson - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Brittany C. Grayson is a judge for the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in the First Judicial District of Wisconsin. She was appointed to the bench by Tony Evers in 2019, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael Dwyer (Ret.).

Grayson has held an assignment in the Felony Division.

Prior to her appointment, she worked as an assistant district attorney with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office since 2013. During her tenure there, Grayson handled Children in Need of Protection or Services (CHIPS), early intervention, and domestic violence cases.

Before becoming a prosecutor, she was an attorney at Hudson Legal (2011 to 2013).

She received a B.S. in business from Marquette University. Grayson went on to complete a J.D. at Marquette University Law School in 2011.

Her memberships have included the Wisconsin Association of African-American Lawyers, having served as a board member, treasurer, director, and parliamentarian.

Grayson also served on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Wisconsin and was a liaison from the Board of Governors to the Leadership Development Committee and the Children and the Law Section. Grayson was selected to serve on the Executive Committee in 2019.

Her other committee memberships include the Diversity Recruitment Committee, the Diversity Reception Committee, the Restorative Justice Conference Planning Committee, the Milwaukee County Race, Equity, and Procedural Justice Committee, and the “Just Us” Book Club Subcommittee.

Grayson was raised in Brookfield, Wisconsin, and attended Catholic High School in Waukesha. In high school, she was a hurdler on the track and field team. As such, Grayson competed in the state championships for two years and was undefeated in the high hurdle event during her senior year. She was named the 2003 Wisconsin Track Coaches’ Association Female Athlete of the Year.

In her free time, Grayson enjoys yoga and dining out in Milwaukee.
