The Hon. Brook Hedge (Ret.) served as an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Hedge was appointed to the bench by former President George H.W. Bush in 1992. She assumed senior status on December 3, 2010.
Prior to her appointment, Hedge worked for the United States Department of Justice. She started as a trial attorney for the Federal Program Branch of the Civil Division in 1977. She held that position for two years, eventually becoming its Assistant Director (1979) and the Acting Director (1979). Then, in 1982, she joined the Senior Executive Service of the Office of Legal Counsel. Hedge specialized in cases involving law enforcement, national security, and foreign policy as well as education, human services, and banking litigation.
Hedge earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1970. She spent the next year working for the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law before completing a J.D. at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in 1974.
After graduating from law school, Hedge began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. June L. Green of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Her memberships have included the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Council for Court Excellence. She has also been involved with the Board of Directors of the Frederick B. Abramson Foundation and the Women’s Bar Association Foundation.
Hedge was born and raised in New York. When not presiding over legal proceedings, she enjoys photography.
