Hon. Carl W. Bowers is the Chief Judge for the Cobb County State Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Sonny Perdue in September 2005 to fill a new position created by House Bill 1650.
Prior to his appointment, Bowers was a full-time magistrate judge and an assistant solicitor general in Cobb State Court. He also served as a former law clerk in Cobb Superior Court. In addition, Bowers spent five years as a private practice attorney.
He received a B.A. from the University of Georgia in 1986. Bowers went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Georgia School of Law in 1989.
His father, Mike Bowers, is a former Georgia Attorney General and chairman of then-Governor Perdue’s Judicial Nominating Commission. At the time of his son’s appointment, Mike Bowers recused himself from the decision. He served as the State’s Attorney General for sixteen years.
Bowers is the father of four sons.
