The Hon. Catherine P. Sabaitis (Ret.) was an associate justice of the Plymouth County Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Michael Dukakis in 1990. Sabaitis retired in 2016.
During her tenure on the bench, Sabaitis also presided as first justice in Plymouth County.
She received a B.A. from Stonehill College in 1975. Sabaitis went on to earn a J.D. from New England School of Law (1978) and an M.P.A. from Suffolk University (2001).
Prior to joining the judiciary, Sabaitis had worked as a private practice attorney (1978 to 1990) and an assistant city solicitor in the Law Department of the City of Brockton (1984 to 1990). She also taught as an instructor at Massasoit Community College.
Sabaitis served as a member of the Supreme Judicial Court’s Task Force on Judicial Conduct, Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Evidence Law, and its Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics. Her other memberships included the Plymouth County Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.
Sabaitis received the Community Service Award from the Massachusetts Bar Association (1990) and the Friend of Children Award from the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (1991).
