The Hon. Christine J. Engustian is a judge for the Richmond Probate Court in Washington County, Rhode Island. She was appointed to the bench by the Richmond Town Council.
In addition to her judicial service, Engustian owns the Law Offices of Christine J. Engustian, a law firm she established in 1995. She specializes in zoning, land use, and development law, supplementing her practice with service as general counsel for the Rhode Island Builders Association (2012 to present).
Engustian earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of the Holy Cross in 1981. She then completed a J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 1984. She is admitted to practice in Rhode Island (1984), New York (1989), Massachusetts (1987), the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island (1985), and the United States Claims Court (1989).
Her memberships have included the Rhode Island Builders Association, where she sits on its Land Use Committee. She is also involved with the American Planning Association and the United States Green Building Council. Engustian holds the distinction of being the first attorney in Rhode Island to earn the designation of LEED AP from the United States Green Building Council.
When not presiding over legal matters, Engustian applies her interest and expertise in land use law to public service as a volunteer trainer in Grow Smart Rhode Island’s “Making Good Land Use Decisions” and “Conducting Effective Land Use Reviews.”
