The Hon. Christopher V. Sockwell is a judge for the 22nd Judicial District Circuit Court of Tennessee. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Haslam on November 15, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert L. Jones.
The 22nd Judicial District encompasses Giles, Lawrence, Maury, and Wayne Counties.
Sockwell earned a bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb College in 1986. He taught mathematics at Pearl-Cohn High School in Nashville before completing a J.D. at the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1993.
He is licensed to practice in Tennessee (1993) and Alabama (1994).
After graduating from law school, Sockwell entered into private practice, working as an attorney at Boston, Holt, Sockwell & Durham in Lawrenceburg. He remained with the firm until his appointment to the bench, supplementing his practice with service as the City Judge and City Attorney for the City of Ethridge.
His memberships have included the Lawrence County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Columbia American Legion (Post 19) and the Lawrenceburg Kiwanis Club, and he has served on the Boards of Directors of the Lawrenceburg Babe Ruth Baseball Committee, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and Kid’s Place: Child Advocacy Center.
Sockwell and his wife, Jennette, have three children. The family attends Pulaski Street Church of Christ.
