Hon. Christy M. Hormann is a judge for the 3rd Judicial District Court of Minnesota in Freeborn County. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Tim Walz on April 8, 2022, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Steven R. Schwab (Ret.). She holds the distinction of being the first female judge to be sworn into Freeborn County.
The 3rd Judicial District includes Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona Counties.
Prior to her appointment, Hormann was the chief deputy county attorney with the Steele County Attorney’s Office, where her caseload included civil commitments, guardianships or conservatorships, and adult felony criminal cases. Before her position there, she worked as an assistant county attorney in the Criminal Division in Ramsey County.
Hormann received a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas. She went on to complete a J.D. at William Mitchell College of Law. Hormann was admitted to practice in Minnesota in 2004.
She has served on the Board of Directors of the Crisis Resource Center and the Steele County Safety Camp. Hormann is also a former member of the Steele County Community Corrections Advisory Board, the Promoting Peace Planning Committee, the 3rd Judicial District Veteran’s Court Screening Team, and the 3rd Judicial District Veterans Treatment Court.
She served as an Owatonna High School Mock Trial coach and a mock trial judge for the Minnesota State High School League.
