The Hon. Clarence Cuthpert, Jr. is a judge for the Rockdale County State Court in Georgia. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Brian Kemp on February 1, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Nancy N. Bills to the Rockdale County Superior Court.
Prior to his appointment, Cuthpert was a judge for the Rockdale County Probate Court, a position to which he was named in 2017. Before that, he was a managing partner for Cuthpert & Associates as well as an associate in the Law Office of Lester B. Johnson, III and an associate city attorney for the City of Atlanta. Over the course of his legal career, he specialized in civil, criminal, education, employment, government, and discrimination matters.
Cuthpert earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Savannah State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Georgia Southern University (1992). He then completed a J.D. at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law in 1996. Cuthpert is a registered Mediator and Arbitrator through the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
His memberships have included the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, the Judicial Council’s Standing Committee on Access to Justice, the Council of State Court Judges of Georgia, the American Bar Association, the Rockdale Bar Association, the Gate City Bar Association, and the NewRock Legal Society.
He is registered as a Democrat.
