The Hon. Cynthia M. Brackett is an associate justice of the Taunton District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Deval Patrick in 2013.
Brackett earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1987. She then completed a J.D. at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law in 1990.
After graduating from law school, Brackett joined the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. As an assistant district attorney, Brackett held assignments in the New Bedford District Court and the Fall River District Court. She also sat as Chief of the Child Abuse & Sexual Assault Unit (1999 to 2006) as well as a member of the Homicide Unit (2007 to 2013).
Her memberships have included the Coalition for Animals, the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club, the Massachusetts Lafayette Society, the National Rifle Association, and the Friends of the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum. She also participated in the Sexually Dangerous Review Committee and the Child Fatality Review Team for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Brackett was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Her father worked as a police officer while her mother was a registered nurse.
