Judge Daniel D’Alessandro: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Daniel D’Alessandro (Ret.) served as a judge for the Hudson County Superior Court (Vicinage 6) in New Jersey. D’Alessandro was appointed to the bench in 2010. He retired in 2019 and joined the Weiner Law Group.

Over the course of his judicial career, D’Alessandro held assignments in the Civil Division (2010 to 2019). He was the Open Public Records Act judge as well as the intensive settlement conference judge and the new judge mentor.

D’Alessandro earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Peter’s College in 1971. He then completed a J.D. at Seton Hall Law School (1974) and an LL.M. in criminal justice at New York University (1980). He is admitted to practice in New Jersey (1975), the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (1975), the United States Supreme Court (1985), and the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (1989).

After graduating from law school, D’Alessandro entered into private practice. He founded D’Alessandro & Cieckiewicz in 1976, handling family law, civil litigation, commercial law, construction, real estate and development, health care, probate litigation, and estate planning matters.

He supplemented his practice with service as a civil arbitrator for the New Jersey Superior Court (1985 to 2006), counsel for the Employees Retirement System of Jersey City (1985 to 1989), municipal prosecutor for the Town of Secaucus (1976 to 1977), and municipal defender for the City of Jersey City (1976). He was also pro bono counsel to domestic violence groups and special counsel to the Jersey City Sewerage Authority.

His memberships have included the Hudson County Bar Association. He sat on the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Family Practice Committee, Women and the Courts Committee, Media Working Group, and the District VI Ethics Committee. He has also been involved with the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County (president).

Born and raised in Jersey City, D’Alessandro is the first person in his family to study beyond the ninth grade. He attended Saint Peter's Preparatory School.
