The Hon. Daniel F. O’Flaherty (deceased) was a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Virginia in Alexandria. He joined the bench in 1967. O’Flaherty retired in 1998.
In addition to his judicial duties, he was a silent partner in a local real estate holding, until selling his interest in the property in 1973.
Before joining the bench, O’Flaherty worked in private practice and was an elected member of the Alexandria City Council. He also sat as a substitute judge, following his appointment to the position in 1956.
O’Flaherty attended Roanoke College until he entered service in the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. He went on to complete a J.D. at George Washington University Law School in 1949.
O’Flaherty served as a longtime participant on the St. Patrick’s Day Fun Dog Show and was a past president of the Rosemont Citizens Association, the Potomac Lung Association, the Maury School PTA, AHEPA, and the Trinity United Methodist Church Men’s Club.
A native of Alexandria, Virginia, he sold shoes at Hayman’s and worked at the Torpedo Factory while attending George Washington High School. He and his wife, Resa, have two children.
O’Flaherty passed away on March 26, 2015.
