The Hon. David L. Allen is a judge for the 22nd Judicial District Circuit Court of Tennessee. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Haslam on June 17, 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jim Travis Hamilton.
The 22nd Judicial District encompasses Giles, Lawrence, Maury, and Wayne Counties.
Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1974. He spent time as an elementary school music teacher before completing a J.D. at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law, in 1980.
After graduating from law school, Allen entered into private practice, working as an associate at Barnett, Tingle, Noble & Sexton. He remained with the firm until 1982, at which time he joined Harwell, Plant & Allen. Then, in 1985, he opened his own private practice as a sole practitioner.
His memberships have included the Lawrence County Board of Education. He has also been involved with Miracle League and the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg.
He is a recipient of the Judges Making a Difference Award from the Tennessee Association of Recovery Court Professionals.
As a step-father, Allen shares two grandsons with his wife, Kaye.
He is registered as a Republican.
