Hon. David F. Guthrie (Ret.) was a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Arkansas. He joined the bench in 1994. Guthrie retired in 2020.
The 13th Judicial Circuit includes Calhoun, Cleveland, Columbia, Dallas, Ouachita, and Union Counties.
Prior to beginning his judicial career, he managed his own private practice and served as a local public defender.
Guthrie received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Hendrix College in 1969. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1972.
While a law student, Guthrie completed an ROTC course, was commissioned, and later attended officer basic training after law school. While serving in the Army Reserve, he was activated in 1990 and deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War, where he served as a member of the 321st Material Management Center.
He was admitted to practice in Arkansas (1973), the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas (1974), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit (1984).
Guthrie began his legal career as a clerk to the Hon. Oren Harris with the United States District Court for the Western District of Arkansas in El Dorado.
He was raised in Camden, Arkansas.
