The Hon. David W. Cunis is First Justice of the Framingham District Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mitt Romney on December 6, 2006.
Over the course of his judicial career, Cunis has held assignments as First Justice of the Natick District Court as well as an associate justice of the Appellate Division of the Massachusetts District Court (Southern District).
Cunis earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 1990.
After graduating from law school, Cunis began his legal career as a staff attorney for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. He worked in that capacity for three years, eventually leaving to join the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. Cunis started as an assistant district attorney, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Chief of the Appeals Bureau.
His memberships have included the District Court Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse Disorders and the District Court Voir Dire Committee.
Cunis was born in Framingham.
