Hon. Don J. Toussaint is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Colorado. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jared Polis in 2020, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John L. Wheeler (Ret.).
The 18th Judicial District includes Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties.
Prior to his appointment, Toussaint presided as a judge for the Arapahoe County Court since 2018. He first joined the bench as a magistrate for the 18th Judicial District in 2017. Before that, Toussaint worked as an assistant city attorney for the City of Aurora (2012 to 2017) and an associate at White & Steele, P.C. (2009 to 2012).
He received a B.A. in English technical writing from the University of Colorado Denver (1998) and an M.S. in management from Regis University. Toussaint went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2009. He was admitted to practice in Colorado (2009) and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado (2010).
The youngest of four children, he was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey. Toussaint relocated to Aurora, Colorado, in 1991 and attended Overland High School. He and his wife, Dr. Sue-Lin Toussaint, have two children. Toussaint, a first-generation Haitian American, enjoys bicycling, fencing, community volunteering, and running when not presiding over legal matters.
