The Hon. Douglas P. Witteman is a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Sam Brownback on September 25, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Thomas H. Sachse.
The 4th Judicial District encompasses Anderson, Coffey, Franklin, and Osage Counties. Whitteman has held assignments in Franklin County.
Prior to his appointment, Witteman was the County Attorney for Coffey County, a position to which he was named in 1997. He also worked as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, specializing in public works improvement, public finance, nuisance abatement, and other municipal law matters.
Witteman earned a bachelor’s degree from Oral Roberts University in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 1991. He is licensed to practice in Kansas (1991), Oklahoma (1992), and Missouri (1993).
After graduating from law school, Witteman entered into private practice in Wichita. He spent time as an associate at Hinkle, Eberhart & Elkouri as well as a partner at Patterson, Nelson, Nolla & Witteman.
A resident of LeRoy, Kansas, Witteman and his wife, Traci, have four children.
