Hon. Douglas R. Herman (Ret.) was a judge for the East Central Judicial District of North Dakota. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor John Hoeven in 2004. Herman retired on January 11, 2019.
The East Central Judicial District includes Cass, Steele, and Traill Counties.
Prior to his appointment, he spent twenty years as an attorney in the Vogel Law Firm (1977 to 1997) and was general counsel for Great Plains Software (1997 to 2004) before he joined the bench.
Herman received a B.A. from Baylor University in 1971. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School in 1975. He was admitted to practice in Oklahoma (1975), North Dakota (1977), and Minnesota (1982).
He was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Herman and his wife, Sarah, have three sons.
